What Is a Peptide?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked together, smaller than a full protein. Because of their structure, many peptides are studied for how they interact with specific biological pathways, making them a common subject of laboratory and preclinical research.

How Are Research Peptides Supplied?

Most research peptides are supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a sealed vial. This form is more stable for storage and shipping than a liquid solution. Reconstitution — dissolving the powder in an appropriate diluent — is typically done immediately before use, and only in the amount needed.

Storage Basics

Lyophilized peptides are generally stored refrigerated (2–8°C) and protected from light and moisture. Once reconstituted, a peptide’s stability window is typically shorter, so most researchers reconstitute close to the time of use rather than storing solution long-term.
